What Changed?
The maternity leave insurance branch supports working families and helps fund statutory leave benefits through a social insurance model rather than leaving the cost only to individual employers at the time leave is taken.
The Oman News Agency reported that the employer is required to pay a subscription of 1% towards Maternity Leave Insurance. The amount is calculated on the full wage, without a specified ceiling, and on a daily basis.
Who Is Covered?
The coverage is broad. The Oman News Agency reported that the branch benefits Omanis working in the Sultanate of Oman across all sectors, including different types of employment contracts, temporary contracts, training contracts, and retired workers.
It also applies to non-Omani workers employed in units of the State Administrative Apparatus and private sector establishments governed by the Labour Law.

Benefits Supported by the Branch
The maternity leave insurance branch includes maternity leave allowance, paternity leave allowance, childcare leave, and maternity leave allowance for workers whose services have ended but who remain eligible for job security allowance.
The ILO described the reform as a pioneering social insurance step in the Gulf region, noting that maternity and paternity leave benefits are collectively financed by employers through a monthly contribution to the Social Protection Fund.
